"Uncomplicated Christmassongs"

Dearly beloved readers!

It’s a pleasure to finally say, that the Christmas-EP is now streaming at myspace!

Update nov 30: Now it’s also available for download!

"Uncomplicated Christmassongs" cover by Gertrud Hjelm Kongshøj

It has been some crazy, lovely, exhausting, lifegiving months for me, and I’m very, very proud of the outcome. Some might say, that it is a silly thing to do – to make a christmasrecord, but I work with the device, that I have to obey the inspiration, and inspiration gave me 5 christmassongs this summer.

I couldn’t have done it without the magnificent Aske Bode and Caspar Hesselager/SLUU. Nor could the record contain the banjo, upright bass, female vokals, mouth organ, percussion, piano, synthesizers and all the other instruments without the fantastic people who took time to stop by. Thank you every one!

The tracklist is:

1 Christmas is here

2 Uncomplicated Christmassong

3 The Boy in the Manger

4 Immanuel

5 Winterfire

Lyrics will follow on the blog soon. So you can sing along. Or figure out, what is sung.

If you like what you hear, it will be able for purchase through Klicktrack from monday 30th of November! (Scandinavia only, sorry – iTunes will follow shortly)!

Let me know what you think of it.

Merry Christmas

Live Review

Re:action

Hi, everyone!

It’s been only a few days since I put “Uncomplicated” on Myspace, and it already has 350 plays. Lovely! Thanks to everyone who dropped a comment.

Now, one of the most important musicjournalists in Denmark, Carsten Holm (of Danish National Radio P3), writes nice things about HFN and the christmassongs. I’m flattered!

The last couple of days have been a bit hectic. The songs are now sent to mastering (the last phase in the making of a record), so the songs should be ready in a few days!

Yesterday, I rehearsed for the Musikcafeen job (29/11), with my new fellow musicians, Christel and Jakob. I’m very exited about this expansion of the live-crew!

Julefrokosten and Hymns from Nineveh

Did I say 5? Oh yeah, ho ho ho!

The fifth song is called “Uncomplicated Christmassong”. It’s a jolly christmas carol, which I wrote and recorded in May already. In fact, it is so jolly, that it has the honour to participate in a new danish christmas-comedy-movie called “Julefrokosten”! It had premiere yesterday in theaters all over Denmark.

It’s the first time, I get one of my songs in a movie. Yippie! In spite that it’s perhaps one of the happiest songs, I have ever written, it is placed in the saddest scene of the film. Hmm.. Somehow melancholy always lurks in the happiness?

Strangely, it is not a part of the CD-soundtrack, though (and neither is the songs written by Bodebrixen, who also contribute to the film), so if you want to hear it, then you’ll have to either see the movie, or wait for the digital release of my record. Which is soon. I promise.

I’ve kept this as a good secret, and now you know.

Best wishes – Jonas

Music and tonsillitis

Hi guys

It’s been a while. I’ve been sick and busy. Busy and sick. With music and tonsillitis.

Fortunately, I have good news: We’re almost done! It has been some crazy days:

Magnus (percussionist in Bodebrixen) came by again and this time, he brought all kinds of bells and exotic rattlingstuff to add a crisp soundscape to “The boy in the manger”. Once again, he was like a drummachine. Impressive.

A good friend of mine, Nikolaj Paakjaer also took some time out to visit. He played an exellent, desertlike harmonica (or mouth organ, if you will) on “Christmas is here”.

Finally, David Blomqvist came with his upright bass to add some depth to the strings already recorded.

Yesterday I lay some cello on three tracks, to complete the sinfonietta-strings section.

There is one small scratch in the paintwork: we have decided not to work any further on “Endurance in christmastime”. It simply didn’t feel right. Maybe next year :) . So now, it’s down to five.

Tomorrow Aske, Caspar and I are going to meet with my label, where they, for the first time, are going to hear the record in its full length. Exciting! There’s still work to do, though: the mixing phase is just around the corner.

I’ll be back soon.

Thanx for following!
Jonas
