The crazyness continues..

Hi, folks!

This morning, very early morning, Hymns from Nineveh played on Danish national television. It was our first TV appearance ever, so we were a tiny bit nervous (mildly put).

You can watch it HERE!

Thank you so much for your kind words – they are very much appreciated!!

All the best,

Party Party

Hi, everyone,

We released the album yesterday, and you made the miracle happen: It went directly to the top spot as the best selling album on iTunes!

I can’t thank you enough.

So – now we’re throwing you a release party. It will be the third of March at Ideal Bar in Copenhagen. Free entrance. Hymns from Nineveh will play a small, acoustic show (without drumz and bazz – that’ll have to wait till the tour!).

My dear friends in Mechanical Bird and my friend RebekkaMaria will be there as well, and play some of their lovely tunes. You can tjeck out the Facebook-event here.

Mechanical Bird is Jakob Brixen’s solo project, as you may know – and he’s a contender for Danish National Radio’s hitlist “Det Elektriske Barometer”. Go listen and vote for him – just by klicking the hearts (you must vote for 4 more artists).
That’s it.

Hope you enjoy the record.

With love,

Jonas the Hymnboy

Practice with the band

Hi, readers!

Something exciting is happening in the land of Hymns from Nineveh: we’re practicing for the springtour! We’re in the final stage of the booking, so it will be only a short while before I can say something about the concerts – but you might wonder who “we” are?

Well, those of you, who have been attending a Hymns from Nineveh-concert in 2010, might recognize these three lovely people:

Christel Voldby Winther - violin & vocal

Jakob Brixen - banjo, singing saw, accordion & vocal

Nikolaj Paakjær Mikkelsen - piano, glockenspiel, percussion & vocal

Christel has actually been playing live with me in Hymns from Nineveh since 2007, Nikolaj and Jakob (who I call Niko & Jake) came along in late 2009. I’m very greatful that these three beauties still want to play with me. They’re extraordinaryly creative with their instruments and their ideas – maybe because they are songwriters themselves. Christel makes I et stille hus, Jakob makes Mechanical Bird and Nikolaj makes Even if it’s me!

Sometimes we’ve been lucky to have company by one of my dearest and most talented friends, Mikael Kærsgaard of Munich and Kites & Komets. He’s a guitar virtuoso and a lovely man (and has a beard that makes any man in the room jealous!)

So – Christel, Jakob and Nikolaj, and occasionally Mikael, have been playing with me for quite a while now. But – the last couple of weeks we’ve been practicing with yet two more people – making the live constellation of Hymns from Nineveh a SEXTETTE!!!

The two musicians are none other than…. read more »

Spring has come – time for First Aid Kit

Hi, Reader!

Today the temperature went above 10 degrees celsius i Copenhagen for the first time this year! Winter has finally and officially retreated! Hurrah!

Aske is still in London, performing at the JAJAJA party tonight. So when I today tried to kill some hours, I came across a video on youtube, I hadn’t seen for a while: The enchanting Swedish sister-duo First Aid Kit performing one of my favourite songs, Fleet Foxes‘s Tiger Mountain Peasant Song in the Swedish woods.

I don’t know what it is with the Swedes, they are so clever at making good popsongs. Perfect for a celebration of the spring.

They’re giving two Danish shows in March (VEGA & Voxhall) – unfortunately I’ll be whalewatching in the Faroe Islands by then.
Here’s the song I mentioned before, and below that, a new, beauhuhuhutiful video.

Kites and Komets & Murder

Just two short recommendations before I’m off to slumberland:

My dear friend, Mikael, the mind behind Aarhus-based poprockers Munich has just launched a new solo-project called Kites and Komets . Generically speaking it is RnB-ish electro/soul with an acoustic twist. The songs (which are “only” demos for now) speak to your mind, your heart and your feet at the same time. Mikael and I have co-written “Rewinding floors”, and I do some highpitch vocals on it as well. Keep a close eye on this project – It can’t avoid becoming huge.

Another band, which already has become a heavyweight name on the Danish and international scene, are Danish folk-act MURDER. A press release states that they are working on their third album together with Slaraffenland-producer Petter Samuelsson. MURDER was the reason why I picked Good Tape Records as my label. Their “Stockholm Syndrome” (2006) is one of my favourite albums and it was also on several “Albums of the 00′s”-lists. I can’t wait to hear the new material! They might play some of it on their Danish spring-tour (on which Hymns from Nineveh have the honour of being the supporting act).

Goodnight/Jonas

Day 2 – Four good things.

Hello, Hello!

At least four good things happened in the studio today:

1) David Blomqvist (the gentleman who also played dbl.bass on the christmassongs) came by, and made the first guestappearance and did some doubblebass on Selma and So mournful the elegy… He was great! We did some rythmical experiments on both of them with the bass, it was a good creative process.

Medieval banjos & spooky saws

Hi!

Time for a short update. Today has been a great day – and for the first time, we had a guest in the studio!

LYDSTUDIE

Doorbell

The guest was the lovely and talented Mr. Jakob Brixen (the creator of the beautiful Mechanical Bird, and in fact, big brother of Andreas from innovative popsmiths Bodebrixen). Amongst Jakobs many talents as a musician, he playes the banjo and saw! These talents were used today, and I must say – the outcome is fantastic!

Today we’ve done vocals, guitars, melodika and banjo on “Immanuel”, and saw on “The boy in the manger”. “Immanuel” has turned out to become a much more popish tune, than my demo of the song. Super! “The boy in the manger” got an ambient, spooky, ghostly feeling to it with the saw.

During the day, I took some pictures with my cellphone – for you to enjoy. I’m very happy about what we’ve accomplished today, and I can’t wait untill you can hear the result!
